For decades, Dr. Joann Henry has dedicated her life to helping others discover opportunities through education. Through her leadership, mentorship, and unwavering belief in the potential of others, she has empowered students to dream bigger, pursue their goals, and transform their futures through learning.
A LIFE DEDICATED
TO EDUCATION
For more than two decades, Dr. Joann Henry dedicated her career to serving students through Richmond Public Schools. Beginning as a teacher and later advancing into leadership roles, she remained committed to helping students recognize their potential, pursue their goals, and prepare for successful futures.
Throughout her career, she served as a Cooperative Office Education Coordinator, department chair, assistant principal, and educational leader. Her passion for education led her to earn a Bachelor's Degree in Business Education from Virginia State University, a Master's Degree in Education, and ultimately a Doctorate in Educational Leadership.
Whether in the classroom, in administration, or mentoring students one-on-one, Dr. Henry believed that education creates opportunities, changes lives, and opens doors that many never thought possible. That belief continues to guide her work today and serves as the foundation of Dream Academy's mission.
Throughout her career, Dr. Henry often asked students a simple question:

Many students struggled to answer. Some had never been asked the question before, while others had never taken the time to imagine what was possible for their future.
That question was inspired by her mother, who always dreamed big for her daughter and encouraged her to pursue opportunities beyond what she could see for herself. Her mother envisioned a future filled with possibility and purpose.
That lesson stayed with Dr. Henry throughout her life. For decades, she has challenged students to think beyond their current circumstances, dream boldly, and pursue opportunities that can transform their lives.
Today, that same philosophy continues through Dream Academy, where students are encouraged not only to earn a diploma, but to rediscover what is possible for their future.
